Fall is the best season. It’s my favorite season for a whole list of reasons and has been for as long as I can remember! There’s just something about the warm days, chilly nights, and leaves crunching under my feet that puts me into a nostalgic mood. I love the cooler weather so I can bundle up in cozy, cute, fashionable pieces. I love layers and I love that as the day goes on, you can remove layers or add more once the sun goes down.
Call me basic, but I love pumpkin and I love that Fall is the season of pumpkins! I make pumpkin spice lattes throughout the year, but it’s more acceptable to drink a good ole fashioned PSL when the leaves are changing colors and the temperature hovers in the 60’s. What’s better than sitting on the cold bleachers of a football game holding your delicious PSL to keep your hands warm?
Pumpkins aren’t the only reason I love Fall. I grew up in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula (where I recently moved back home to!) and Fall is such an incredible time of the year because the leaves here change colors and it looks incredible. If you’ve never seen the leaves change color, you need to add a road trip to the UP or any of the northern states because it will blow your mind. I’ve lived in Michigan for over 20 years and it still amazes me to this day!
The photo below is of the shoreline along Lake Superior! There’s even a season tour called the Fall Color Tour that takes tourists through the Upper Peninsula to see the beautiful scenery.
Fall is when everyone goes back to school after a long summer break. I’m no longer in school, but I’ve always enjoyed this time of year because that means football starts and what kind of American would I be if I didn’t love football? For me personally, I’m not much of a fan of the NFL. I love watching college football and going to local games to watch the high school kids play because it really brings me back, and in a few years I’ll be watching my nephews play! Kids play their hearts out because they have something to fight for. There’s an incentive to win and it’s nice to be able to cheer for your hometown team and support them.
Another reason I love Fall is because Halloween! Forget about Christmas, I don’t need tangible gifts because Halloween is the only present I need! I love the spooky stories and movies that play all October. I love decorating my house and yard, making fun Halloween themed crafts, and dressing up in creative costumes for Halloween parties. Local farmers make corn mazes, people set up haunted houses and there are hay bale rides that take you through spooky forests. You don’t know terrified until you’re stuck in a haunted themed corn maze with a group of friends when it’s dark outside and you all get separated and can’t find your way out. There’s just so much to do and it’s such a fun time of the year!
(Aren’t these the cutest little bell peppers you’ve ever seen? I made these stuffed bell peppers last September!)
I know I already obsessed over pumpkins, but Fall comes with another food that I just can’t resist.. Apples! I love drinking apple cider in the fall. I never knew how lucky I was to constantly have apple cider in the UP until I went to New Mexico to stay with my mom for a few months last fall and the apple cider was insanely expensive. I’m talking $6 for half a gallon. In the UP there are so many apple trees and places that locally make apple cider, and I don’t take that for granted now!
Besides apple cider, apples make for amazing apple pie, and that’s a must have at Thanksgiving dinners. For us Americans, Thanksgiving is another great perk to Fall and we get to celebrate with out family, stuff our faces full of food and be grateful for the opportunities we’ve been given. Plus, the Packers always play the Lions on Thanksgiving and it’s so much fun every year watching the game with my family because most of us are Green Bay fans.
I could go on and on about why I love Fall so much, but I think you get the point. It’s the best time of year (in my humble opinion) and I’m lucky enough to live in a place where I can truly experience everything the season has to offer. If autumn is also your favorite time of the year, let me know why!
