When the weather gets colder, my skin suffers from dryness, redness and irritation. Living in a climate that experiences the worst of all the seasons can wreak havoc on my skin and it takes extra effort to keep my face hydrated and prevent breakouts and other skin conditions.
My skincare routine in the fall and winter months is much different than my summer routine. I need good products that can give me enough hydration and really protect me against sub zero temperatures and harsh winter winds. Not only do I have to worry about my facial skin drying out, flaking and becoming irritated, my hands suffer and often crack and bleed from the cold if I’m not proactive about taking care of them.

Exfoliation is my best friend. When the temperature drops, I find myself regularly exfoliating every other day at the very least. My favorite exfoliater is Lush Ocean Salt Scrub. It smells really good and really gets the dead, dry skin off my face. It really does a great job at exfoliating and is made with pretty large pieces of sea salt, so I would not recommend using this one more than once or twice a week.
In between uses, I use a much gentler exfoliater and my rule of thumb is to always exfoliate at night because I know I will experience a little bit of redness after washing my face. Sleeping it off calms the redness down and I wake up much more refreshed!
I love using Clinique products and the Clinique exfoliating scrub works wonders (and it’s only $20!). Another great product is Neutrogena’s Deep Clean gentle scrub. It’s budget friendly (only $8) and it does a great job.
Hydration is key!
You should by hydrating your skin 24/7, 365 days a year, but the fall and winter months are even more crucial times for staying on top of your hydration game! During this time of year I always moisturize my face (and hands) morning and night and even throughout the day if I know I’m going to be exposed to the outdoors.
The Belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask is my favorite product to use overnight to give my skin extra hydration and a dewy glow. Sometimes I even use this during the day because it does such a great job at hydrating my skin. My other skincare favorite moisturizer is Le Petit Olivier Moisturizer with Olive Oil. It is unfortunately not available in the US, which is why I stocked up on 5 bottles when I went to France!
Use a Good Cleanser
I exfoliate my skin pretty frequently, which is why it’s also super important to me to use a good, mild cleanser in the morning so I don’t irritate my skin further. I love using my Sal3 sulfur bar during the summer, but the acid in the soap is too harsh for me during the cold months so my favorite product is Lush Angel’s on Bare Skin.
My brother bought me a container in Germany last December and shipped another one to me this year in the states. I love Lush products, and the Angel’s on Bare Skin cleanser does a really great job and cleansing my skin. It even gives my skin extra moisture because it’s made with a blend of lavender, rose and chamomile oils.
The one negative thing about Angel’s on Bare Skin is that it’s very messy. It’s also made with ground almonds, so it takes extra time to wash off and I always find little pieces along my hairline and sometimes in my eyelashes. It does not take off makeup very well at all, so on the days when I wear makeup, I use Clinique’s mild Liquid Facial Soap. It takes my makeup off easily and is very gentle on my skin.
I Scream for Eye Cream
The product I use as an eye cream isn’t actually an eye cream at all! I use the Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb as my eye cream because it actually irritates my jawline and causes breakouts. But it works wonders when I use it in place of an eye cream. It’s made with antioxidant-rich lady’s mantle which helps neutralize skin-damaging free radicals, improves skin elasticity, and minimizes the appearances of pores. I have very fine lines under my eyes, and this really improves the appearance of them.
My Must Have Product
I am obsessed with my jade roller. If you don’t know what it is, go check out my post on this game-changing beauty product! I use it after applying moisturizer to help it absorb better and to improve circulation in my skin.
