My beauty routine is very simple and minimal. I don’t need much more than a simple foundation, mascara and a bold lip to get me through my day. Forget about contouring. The only ‘baking’ I’m doing is in the kitchen. I don’t even know what that is anyway.
I’m not into all the layering and perfect, sculpted brows. I’ve been blessed with big-ass eyebrows that don’t need to be filled in, just plucked every few days to keep them from looking grizzly and overgrown.

The one thing I try to do with my my beauty routine, as well as my skincare routine is adopt a French attitude about beauty. Less is more, so say the French and I absolutely agree! I don’t feel the need to hide my features and plaster my face with tons of makeup.
My vintage polka dot Estée Lauder makeup bag has next to nothing in it, so this post is going to be quite short!
What’s in My Makeup Bag
1. Trestique Matte Color & Shiny Balm Lip Crayon in Florence Fig
This is one of my favorite things ever. I actually got this in my FabFitFun box (Get $10 off your first box here when you use code: SANTABABY) and it’s been my go-to beauty product ever since. One side is a matte crayon and the other side is a shiny lip balm. You can use the crayon for a bold lip, or combine the crayon and balm for beautiful, shiny bold lips. I’ve also used just the balm on days when my lips are feeling chapped and the scent combined with the hydration is heavenly.
2. Clinique Even Better Foundation
The person who first introduced this foundation to me was my grandmother! She uses this on a daily basis and I quickly fell in love. If you’ve read my skincare post you know that I have extremely sensitive skin and my skin breaks out very easily with lots of products. It’s hard to find good products that work for my skin, and when I tried this foundation, it gave me a lot of coverage, didn’t feel too greasy and didn’t cause a single breakout to appear on my face! I ran out in France and ended up buying the Sephora brand foundation, which also is amazing, but it just didn’t give me the coverage the way the Clinique foundation does. It’s a must-have!
3. Diorshow – Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Spectacular Volume & Curl Mascara
I don’t like to use an eyelash curler, so I like using a mascara that helps my lashes curl on their own. I love this Dior mascara because it is iconic and it makes my eyes stand out without looking like I’m wearing too much makeup, which is my goal! I choose to opt-out of eyeliner because the mascara gets the job done!
4. J’adore Eau de Parfum
This is one of my favorite scents ever! I have a tiny bottle I keep in my bag so that I can reapply whenever I need to, and it’s perfect for flights because it fits right in with my liquids bag. My other go-to scents are Daisy by Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren Romance Summer Blossom.
5. OPI Samoan Sand Nail Polish
I love a good nude or pale pink nail polish and OPI is always my favorite because it’s inexpensive and the colors look amazing. I never wear fake nails because I have naturally long, healthy nails that I take really good care of. I don’t like wearing flashy colors or anything bright that would clash with outfits, so pale pinks and nudes are my go-tos.
6. Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
If you’re following a French approach to skincare and beauty, then I’m sure you already know all about Caudalie. This French skincare line is a must have in any beauty routine and it’s great because the moisturizing sorbet is only $39! You can find it at Anthropologie or Sephora. If I’m not using Caudalie, I’m using my other favorite French moisturizer: Le Petit Olivier Moisturizer with Olive Oil. This drugstore buy is under $10 and unfortunately not available in the US, which is why I stocked up on 5 bottles last time I was in Europe!
I wasn’t joking when I said that this list was going to be very short because that’s it! Just 6 items in my makeup bag and all I need for my beauty routine.
