Have you ever visualized something and became so determined to accomplish a goal or achieve a certain outcome and it actually happened? Have you ever created a vision board or written in a journal or diary about the things that you wanted and they started to manifest themselves into reality?
That’s the Law of Attraction.
But what is it, really? The definition states that:
“The Law of Attraction is the belief that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, people can bring positive or negative experiences into their life.”
While it is true that positive or negative thoughts can bring about positive things or negativity, the Law of Attraction has a whole lot more to it than that, and it probably works a little bit differently than you might think.
Thinking positive thoughts alone will not creative positive things for you. That’s not the way it works. People generally believe that you attract certain things. They believe you get what you give out in life, but that is incorrect. That is not the Law of Attraction, that is Karma. They are two completely different things.

So how does the Law of Attraction work? How do people use it to bring about certain outcomes and results for themselves? It’s not about your actions, but about your emotions. The Law of Attraction is not really attracting anything, it’s REFLECTING your emotions and feelings. When you feel a certain way, the things in your life will reflect those feelings.
Take a step back for a moment and look at your life. Are you happy? Are you struggling? Do you have the things you want in life? While it’s important to think positive, thinking positive alone will not bring about change. It’s your MINDSET and your true feelings that will bring about that change.
I want to give you an example of how this works:
“Megan started a business. She wanted to be her own boss and sell her own products, but she had a lot of doubt in her skills and worth. She did it anyway and stayed positive every day, hoping that she would succeed while deep down she didn’t believe in herself and was terrified of failing. Her business ended up failing and she couldn’t figure out why!”
Now let’s look at a different version of Megan
“Megan started a business. She was very excited and was very confident in her skills and abilities. She couldn’t wait to share her products with the world and truly believed that what she was doing would make a difference. Megan’s business thrived and she became very successful.”
What’s the difference between the two versions of Megan? Her ATTITUDE. Her MINDSET. It wasn’t her ability to think positive thoughts, but her ability to FEEL positive things and feel deep down inside that she was worth it and could succeed. The first Megan couldn’t succeed because she felt deep down that she wasn’t good enough to succeed. The Universe reflects your emotions.
The Law of Attraction isn’t about thinking positive or negative things, but FEELING those things to your very core. If your feelings are different than your thoughts, then what you’re thinking won’t make a difference. It’s our perception of something that becomes our reality and the only way to use the Law of Attraction to our advantage is to change our perception.
Gratitude alone also won’t get you what you want. I’m not telling you not to be grateful because I believe it’s an important thing to ultimate happiness, but it’s not the be all end all to getting what you want. Have you ever wondered why the kind, gracious, selfless people sometimes get the short end of the stick and the arrogant, snobbish, spoiled people get everything they want? It’s because of their mindset and their feelings. The spoiled kids get what they want because they truly believe they are entitled to it while the kind, selfless people don’t get what they want because they either believe they don’t deserve it, or they believe someone else should get those things instead of them. This is often why bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people.
The world is not inherently good or evil, it’s our perception that creates the world we live in. Despite what some people might believe, your circumstances or your limitations or access to certain resources do not determine your success. Just because you are born into something or you are struggling financially or grew up in poverty does NOT mean you are destined for those things. But if that’s what you believe, then that’s what will happen.
I love to look at success stories of people who were born into poor, negative circumstances. They didn’t let those circumstances define them and instead rose to the occasion and overcame those hardships to create a better life for themselves. One of my favorite stories is about rapper, Kendrick Lamar. I’m really not much of a rap fan, but I am a fan of his story and what he represents.
Kendrick was born in Compton, California where he had a very rough childhood surrounded by gang violence. His own father was a member of the Gangster Disciples, but despite the life he had been brought into, he didn’t let his upbringing drag him down that same road. He could have let himself become involved, but he became so determined to get away from gang culture and his feelings, his emotions, his mindset made that possible for him and he went on to become a wildly successful, famous artist who is now able to give a voice to those who might not have had one.
There are countless stories of people who were born into circumstances that were not so great, and there are loads of stories about people who have overcome other horrible situations and experiences and became successful, such as Malala Yousafzai, who became one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People AT THE AGE OF 15.
So no matter what you’re struggling with, no matter what you’re trying to do, whatever reason you came here today, you can change your life if you truly believe that you can succeed, because that’s the Law of Attraction.
